What are Canons in Journalism?

Ahuja(2008) recommends the following principles which he describes as “certain canons”of journalism which every journalist is supposed to observe. So what then are this canons? Responsibility,Freedom of the press, independence and also Sincerity, truthfulness and accuracy

This Canon Responsibility is meant for Journalists to always consider the public’s welfare. This means journalists must use great care when publishing information, the journalists must be responsible to the society

Another Canon is the Freedom of the Press, this is also stated in the constitution.Freedom of the press is to be guarded as a vital right of mankind

Independence as a journalist is very important, you need to be independent in your thinking, your covering of information, your presentation of information and in your dissemination of that information. Journalists are supposed to be independent from sources, politics and advertisers. Being independent means,no one can tell you how to write something, when to write or what to write.

This canon with its three separate qualities is supposed to be the foundation for all journalism, this three are Sincerity , Truthfulness and Accuracy.
